4月の「今月のキルト」は、英国を拠点に活動するアーティスト、リン・セッタリントンさんの作品をご紹介します。

「このキルトは人生の喜びと祭式－私の畑（都会のコミュニティガーデン）と、間近に迫った第一子の誕生 を祝い、承認するものです（私は30代後半で初めての赤ちゃんを授かることになり、驚きと感激でいっぱいです）。
赤とクリーム色の布でのストライプは、20世紀初頭にイングランド北部で作られた、余った布切れを使った縞模様のキルトに敬意を表したものです。
そして古い園芸マニュアルを参考に、表面には手刺しゅうで、土の掘り方、種の蒔き方、草取りの仕方、そして私のように作物を収穫する様子などのイメージを描きました」
ロンドンのFashion and Textile Museumで9月7日まで開催中の 「人類の美術」展では、セッタリントンの幅広い作品が展示されています。

For April's Quilt of the Month, we are sharing this beautiful piece from U.K.-based artist Lynn Setterington.
From the artist:
“This quilt celebrates and acknowledges the joys and rituals of life — my allotment (an urban community garden) and the impending birth of my first child (I was surprised and thrilled to find myself expecting my first baby in my late 30s). The red and cream strips of cotton pay homage to stripey quilts made in the early 20th century in the north of England from leftover pieces of cloth, and the hand sewn images worked into the surface are taken from old gardening manuals, showing how to dig the soil, sow seeds, weed and, like me, harvest a crop.”
A broad range of Setterington’s work is on display as part of the exhibition “Art of Mankind,” currently on view at the Fashion and Textile Museum in London through Sept. 7.
